Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation (1960)




"Free Jazz" por Ornette Coleman Double Quartet es uno de los discos más revolucionarios de la historia de la música. Es en realidad una jam session de casi cuarenta minutos. Nos encontramos ante un doble cuarteto. Dos baterías, dos contrabajos y cuatro instrumentos de viento luchando entre sí simultáneamente. Son dos bandas en una, un experimento que a pesar de todo funcionó y dio pie a todas las manifestaciones de la vanguardia jazzística actual. El grupo interpreta un tema al unísono y luego sus miembros improvisaban con total libertad, sin utilizar ningún acorde basal, algo que significó la herejía máxima para los puristas del swing. El visionario Ornette Coleman fue hace 40 años el principal movilizador entre los adeptos a la libertad musical. Y Free Jazz fue su declaración de principios.
